Trentino Alto Adige Wine Pairing Dinner

Join us Sunday, March 1st at 5:30pm for this month’s 5-course wine pairing dinner. We will be featuring the region of Trentino Alto Adige, situated in the very north of Italy bordering Austria and Switzerland, and best known for the beauty of its peaks. This setting encloses and extraordinary variety of landscapes: magnificent snow-capped mountaintops, stunning wood forests, wide valleys, gorgeous typical villages with soaring bell towers, streams, lakes, the enchanting play of light between the spires of the Dolomites and the myriad shades of unadulterated nature. Hundreds of miles of ski slopes make this region a cutting-edge tourist destination.
Trentino Alto Adige cooking draws heavily from its Germanic roots as it does from its Italian heritage. Most of the dishes are hearty and come from the peasant tradition of the region. Over many years, the residents of this autonomous region in Italy have created a unique blend of two cuisines. Goulash is served with cornmeal polenta. Pizza and pasta are as likely to be on the menu as sauerkraut. Polenta is the staple starch along with ravioli and tagliatelle. Its culinary tradition includes lots of soups, salume such as speck, game meats, trout from its lakes and creeks, and apple strudel is the reigning dessert (this region produces more apple than any other European country).
This region produces the world’s best Pinot Grigio (made in a refreshing and zesty style that will tickle your teeth) and Pinot Bianco, great Gewurztraminer, the local reds of Schiavo and Lagrein as well as highly structured Cabernet and Merlot.
